Maxim Mitrofanov on the significance of friendly matches for Russia's FIFA ranking.
The General Secretary of the "RFS", Maxim Mitrofanov, discussed the relevance of organizing matches where the Russian national team faces opponents of lesser stature. On November 15, the team led by Valery Karpin defeated "Brunei" in Krasnodar, finishing the match with a score of 11:0.
Mitrofanov explained that the primary goal of such matches is to create a festive atmosphere in the stadium and satisfy the fans' expectations. In addition, these games provide specific practical benefits.
"Our national team's international matches are included in the official FIFA ranking, allowing us to maintain a position in the fourth decade of the world's strongest teams even during suspension from official competitions," he emphasized.
Currently, the Russian national team holds the 34th place in the FIFA ranking. On November 19, the team under the leadership of Valery Karpin will conduct a friendly match against "Syria" in Volgograd, kicking off at 19:30 MSK.
