Zenit captain will no longer be considered a foreign player due to acquiring a Russian passport.

In St. Petersburg, Zenit's press service released an official statement regarding the acquisition of Russian citizenship by the team's Brazilian captain, Douglas Santos.

Initially, the club extended its congratulations to the midfielder on attaining this new status. The statement highlights that the 30-year-old Brazilian footballer has been honored with the status of being a citizen of the Russian Federation.

It is noted that after receiving proper clarifications from FIFA, the player will not be listed among the legionaries. It is worth mentioning that Douglas Santos has for a long time been defending the colors of the St. Petersburg team.

Today, on October 21, the decree granting citizenship to the native of João Pessoa was signed by Vladimir Putin.
