Manchester United is keeping a close eye on Bayern's left-back Alphonso Davies. Why this transfer might be crucial for new manager Ruben Amorim.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United continues to closely monitor Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies as interest in the Canadian player grows.

Following Manchester United's appointment of Ruben Amorim on November 1, the Portuguese coach has taken his first training session a week after his arrival. Amorim faces a challenging task with the team currently in 13th place in the Premier League and the club hoping he can help them reclaim the title they haven't won in over a decade.

There are rumors that Manchester United will have limited funds for the January transfer window as they approach their financial fair play limits. However, transfer expert Romano confirmed that they are looking to reinforce in the summer, and believe Davies would fit perfectly into Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

On his YouTube channel, Romano said: “As I’ve mentioned to you before, there is still no agreement done with any club. Real Madrid remains in contention. But for Alphonso Davies, there are several possible options. So let’s see how things develop.”

For Manchester United, a left-back is a priority position, and they decided to go with Noussair Mazraoui last summer, thinking he could cover both right and left-back roles. But in 2025, the club wants to sign an important left-back who can excel at that position for Amorim, as the new coach desires a top-level left-footed player.

Journalist Andy Mitten has shared some encouraging news from Old Trafford, reporting that Amorim’s new staff has received positive feedback. Mitten mentioned in the Talk of the Devils podcast: “One source told me that the new staff are really impressive, lovely guys. They will receive massive support, but it’s crucial to get off to a good start. Those initial games are vital because if results aren’t good, those individuals will face scrutiny they’ve never experienced before, and it’s capable of consuming even the most seasoned managers worldwide. This can be avoided if the team starts strong or is perceived to start strong.
