Ruben Amorim: A Fresh Start for Manchester United and Its Star

Ruben Amorim has become the head of Manchester United and is set to revitalize the team after a challenging previous season.

Recently appointed as head of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim has been urged to revitalize a player who was 'let down' by Erik ten Hag. This month, the club decided to bring in Amorim to replace Ten Hag following a disappointing loss to West Ham at the end of October.

Amorim achieved notable success at Sporting Lisbon, leading the team to two Primeira Liga titles and beginning the current season strongly, winning their first eleven league matches. The 39-year-old coach faces a significant challenge at Manchester United, which started the 2024/25 campaign sitting at 13th in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils have been struggling in the league, hampered by inadequate recruitment in recent years. One of the worst signings of the Ten Hag era was that of Casemiro, who was brought in at the cost of £60 million plus add-ons to lure the 32-year-old from Real Madrid. The Brazilian midfielder exceeded expectations during his debut season in 2022/23, but his performance has significantly dipped over the past 18 months.

Casemiro faced heavy criticism, though his form slightly improved under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy. Ex-United striker Louis Saha expressed confidence in Amorim's ability to bring out the best in the midfielder after being let down by Ten Hag's tactics.

Saha remarked: "You could see how exposed he was in Erik ten Hag’s system, which ultimately had flawed tactics. Casemiro was asked to do too much, and without the right teammates, it was tough for him. No matter how many trophies he's won, he would struggle in such a system."

Amorim is confident in his abilities and is determined. He stated, "I’m a bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself and the club. I think we have the same idea and mindset, which can help. I truly believe in the players, although you might not believe much, but I do. I want to try new things, you don't think it's possible, but I do. Call me naive, but I believe I am the right guy at the right time."

He added, "I know at Manchester United, we have to win. It will take time because it's a tough league, and we need significant improvements to compete for the title. We need to change the team's physical aspect, but I’m not sure how long it will take."
