Why 'Manchester United' Should Consider Selling Fernandes and Rashford

Carragher believes 'Manchester United' should

Carragher believes 'Manchester United' should sell Fernandes and Rashford to improve the squad and comply with financial rules.

Jamie Carragher opined that "Manchester United" should contemplate the sale of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. According to him, the "Red Devils" captain is not an outstanding player but could fetch significant revenue for the club.

Fernandes was awarded the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for the third time last season, finishing the club’s worst-ever Premier League campaign with ten goals and eight assists. With the arrival of Ruben Amorim, the Portuguese continues to be the pivotal figure in the team, starting every game under his compatriot's leadership.

However, considering the necessity for "United" to raise funds through player sales to strengthen their squad and adhere to financial regulations, Carragher believes there is a dilemma with Fernandes due to his age and indiscipline when out of possession. "He has been one of the best players during a challenging period for the club and could have shone with higher quality surrounds," wrote Carragher. "But at his age, there may be value in financially lucrative offloading."

Amorim might see things differently and believe in a few more years of Fernandes with clever additions to serve the team better. Still, selling should be a consideration since Fernandes is one of the few players who could command a big fee if financial sustainability rules are an issue.

Rumors about Marcus Rashford’s future are rampant, and Carragher isn't surprised that "Manchester United" is looking to part ways with him. In his view, "Red Devils" will never claim major silverware with Rashford at the helm. "Considering how many signings have depreciated, it’s unsurprising that big names like Rashford are up for discussion," Carragher added. "'United' should offload him as he doesn't deliver value for his hefty contract. Rashford has netted only eleven times in 48 matches over the last 18 months, which isn't good enough."
