A farewell to Alexey Drozdzenko, who left a remarkable legacy in "Shakhtar" and became a Donetsk legend.

On December 15, at the age of 84, the renowned player and coach of "Shakhtar" Alexey Drozdzenko passed away, according to the club's official statement.

Alexey Drozdzenko, a product of Donetsk football, began his journey in his hometown Chistyakovo (later known as Torez), playing for the reserve team of the "Miners" and making his first team debut in 1962. Over 11 seasons, he played 165 matches, earning a spot in the list of the 33 best players in the Ukrainian SSR three times. In 1971-1972, he was the captain of "Shakhtar".

After concluding his playing career, he joined the coaching staff of his native club (1979–1983, 1989–1994, 1997–1999, 1999–2002), temporarily served as the head coach of "Shakhtar" (October – November 1999), and also led the club's academy (1975–1978, 1984–1988, 2004–2008).

"FC Shakhtar extends its condolences to the family and friends of Alexey Mitrofanovich Drozdzenko in this time of profound loss. His name will forever be etched in the history of Donetsk football, and the memory of him will live on in the hearts of millions of fans," the club states in its announcement.
