Crisis in Akhmat: Alexey Popov on Coaching Staff Changes

Alexey Popov shares his view

Alexey Popov shares his view on Akhmat's difficult situation and Stanislav Cherchesov's potential role in saving the team. Details of the interview and analysis of the current RPL position.

Unveiling the reasons behind Akhmat's tough situation, former Rubin defender Alexey Popov shared his opinion on the matter. He believes the team needs significant changes in the training process.

Popov commented on the situation after another, already third consecutive defeat in the 16th round of the RPL, where Akhmat was defeated by Krylia Sovetov with a score of 1:2. The only goal for the Grozny team was scored by Kazakhstan's forward Maxim Samorodov. Sergey Tashuev's team, with 9 points, now occupies the 15th position in the RPL.

Popov questioned why coach Sergey Tashuev struggles to deliver satisfactory results, noting that a similar situation is observed not only in the Akhmat club. He mentioned that the club's management might already be considering a change of coach and is looking at Stanislav Cherchesov as a potential savior from relegation.

Cherchesov, a possible candidate for a new coach, can improve the team's position, and Popov is confident that he can not only avoid relegation but also fight for a place in the upper ranks of the standings. However, Cherchesov is currently engaged with the Kazakhstan national team, with a contract valid until the end of the World Cup 2026 qualification.

Despite failures in the Nations League, where Cherchesov's team landed in League C after five defeats and only one draw, he remains in charge of the national team. The Kazakhstan team showed the worst result in goal difference, but Cherchesov continues to receive support in this role.
