Why did Willian José not succeed at "Spartak"?

Willian José at "Spartak"

Coach Boris Ignatiev revealed the reasons behind Brazilian forward Willian José’s unsuccessful stint at "Spartak." Discover details on the contract termination and the player's future prospects.

Former "Spartak" forward Willian José couldn't showcase his skills in Russia due to a failure to adjust to his new environment, though doubts about his professional abilities are nonexistent, stated coach Boris Ignatiev.

On Tuesday, "Spartak" announced the contract termination with the 33-year-old Brazilian. Willian José played for the "red-whites" since last summer, making 13 appearances and netting only one goal. On January 14, club "Bahia" announced José's transfer.

"SpartakWillian José— is an experienced player who cannot be described as untalented. This footballer achieved results in Europe, but adaptation in the RPL didn't work out for him—this happens. Also, there were issues with excess weight, which could be due to anything. We don't know all the specifics. It’s clear, however, that José couldn't handle it psychologically. It would have been great if he excelled, but something went awry," noted Ignatiev.
