Eight African clubs face off against global giants at the 2025 Club World Cup football tournament.

Four African teams — "Al Ahly" (Egypt), "Espérance Sportive de Tunis" (Tunisia), "Mamelodi Sundowns" (South Africa), and "Wydad AC" (Morocco) — have been placed in challenging groups along with major world clubs following the draw for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. The inaugural 32-team tournament, held in Miami, USA, has set the stage for exciting matches where African clubs will compete to make their mark on the global stage.

"Al Ahly", the record holders of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League titles, are in Group A along with Brazil’s "SE Palmeiras", "FC Porto" of Portugal, and "Inter Miami CF", the tournament hosts. Their opening game against "Inter Miami" promises to be a spectacular start at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Tunisian team "Espérance Sportive de Tunis" competes in Group D, facing South American powerhouse "CR Flamengo", English giants "Chelsea", and Mexico’s "Club León". "Espérance" faces a monumental challenge to advance from the so-called "Group of Death".

South Africa’s "Mamelodi Sundowns", known for their vibrant attacking play, will compete in Group F. They face Brazil’s "Fluminense", Germany’s "Borussia Dortmund", and South Korea’s "Ulsan HD". The Sundowns, unbeaten in recent competitions, will need their best form to advance.

Morocco’s "Wydad AC", the reigning CAF Champions League champions, are in Group G alongside European treble winners "Manchester City", UAE’s "Al Ain", and Italy’s "Juventus". The Moroccan giants aim to replicate their continental dominance on the global stage.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout rounds, with the final scheduled at MetLife Stadium in New York on July 13. African teams will aim to make history as they face tough opposition.
