Klopp comments on Salah's contract talks and possible transfers

Klopp speaks about Salah's contract

Salah might leave Liverpool, as talks stall, despite support from former manager Klopp.

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has shared his perspective on Mohamed Salah’s current contract scenario. Since his arrival in England in 2017, the Egyptian forward has been a revelation, firmly establishing himself among the most consistent attackers in the competition's history.

Despite his undeniable world-class performance, in what is now his eighth season with the club, Salah's contract concludes in six months, potentially leaving the Reds without this key player by June. Having managed the team nearly for nine years until 2024, Klopp, now officially taking on the role of Global Head of Football at Red Bull, addressed Salah's future during a press conference marking his new role.

“I hope he stays,” Klopp responded. “That's the greatest striker LFC had in modern times. Of course, there were other good strikers, really good strikers. But fantastic player, fantastic person, outstanding athlete, best ambassador [Egypt] could have, just fantastic in all aspects. So, I hope he continues at Liverpool.”

Salah recently hinted that these six months could be his last at the club, as contract discussions have reached an impasse. He told Sky Sports: “So far, yes. It’s the last six months. There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress. So, we just need to wait and see. What’s happening in my mind is what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say you were worried about the contract or do you just want to say I had an unbelievable season? That’s what’s in my head. If I ever feel distraction, I just remind myself to focus on the incredible season I’ve had. That’s what I want to achieve.”

Nonetheless, the potential exit of the Egyptian has attracted interest from teams like the Saudi Arabian Al-Ittihad. Reports suggest they are offering him a deal that could make him the highest-paid player globally.

Salah has been relentless this season, logging 21 goals and 17 assists in 28 games, which is more contributions than any player across Europe's top five leagues.
