Erik Ten Hag Could Lead Borussia After Nuri Sahin's Departure

Erik ten Hag and potential

Nuri Sahin left Borussia, and now Erik ten Hag may return to leading the club.

Former "Manchester United" manager Erik ten Hag might soon return to a coaching position following the ousting of Nuri Sahin. The ex-"Liverpool" midfielder exited "Borussia Dortmund" after a run of poor performances, which landed them in 10th place in the Bundesliga and 13th in the Champions League.

With a recent 2-1 loss to "Bologna", the final straw came after "Dortmund" initially took the lead only to surrender it two minutes late in the match. Upon his dismissal, Sahin remarked: "Unfortunately, we have not managed to live up to "Borussia Dortmund"’s sporting ambitions this season. I wish this special club all the best." "Dortmund" sporting director Lars Ricken mentioned that they "lost faith in achieving our goals". "This decision personally hurts me," said Ricken, "but it was unavoidable after the game in "Bologna".

As reported by Sky Germany, the Dutchman had been 'shadow coaching' for weeks and has a solid rapport with "Dortmund" advisor and former captain Matthias Sammer, possibly paving the way for his installation as manager.

Under the ineffective leadership from the start of the season, "Dortmund" managed only 12 victories in 27 games, with 11 losses. Though his tenure at "Manchester United" was highly publicized and scrutinized, moments of triumph did occur, including two domestic trophies. In the EFL Cup and FA Cup, his record includes 17 victories in 21 matches, defeating "Newcastle United" in 2023 and "Manchester City" in 2024. He guided them to 3rd place in the 2022-23 season but dropped to an unimpressive 8th place the following season, continuing into the current campaign.

Previously, Erik ten Hag assembled an admirable "Ajax" team abundant with youthful talent playing in the 'Ajax way'. Their 2018-2019 Champions League campaign was captivating as they reached the semi-finals, which was a breathtaking achievement.

After overcoming "Juventus" and "Real Madrid", "Ajax" appeared set for a historic final, but "Tottenham" produced a defining moment of the decade, scoring in dying seconds, denying them a clash with "Liverpool". Subsequently, he collected two more Dutch league titles and a Dutch cup before departing "Ajax" for "United". "Dortmund"'s current squad offers ample youthful potential to consider this an exciting opportunity.

While Sahin struggled to extract consistent performance from his squad, several players have been linked with moves to England. On the left wing, Jamie Gittens has caught the eye with "Chelsea" and "Man United" expressing interest. Karim Adeyemi has been associated with various clubs given his speed and attacking prowess. Among them, "Liverpool", "Chelsea", and "United" have been named as possible destinations.
