Taiwo Awoniyi: Time for Change at "Nottingham Forest"

Taiwo Awoniyi and potential changes

A new chapter in Awoniyi's career at "Nottingham Forest" and the team's possible reinforcement with Wissa.

Taiwo Awoniyi's future at "Nottingham Forest" appears uncertain. The once-promising career of the 27-year-old Nigerian striker has hit a significant roadblock. Joining "Nottingham Forest" in 2022 for a considerable sum of 20 million euros from "Union Berlin", Awoniyi quickly made a name for himself by scoring ten goals in 27 Premier League matches. Despite injuries, his exploits helped keep "Forest" in the elite division, making him a fan favorite and the main man up front.

However, health issues have continued to plague *Awoniyi*, and his influence has waned significantly. Last season, the forward managed only six goals in 23 appearances, missing a substantial portion of games due to a groin issue.

This season also brings disappointment for *Awoniyi*. In 17 Premier League matches, of which he started only two, he has managed to score just once. Meanwhile, fellow "Forest" striker Chris Wood has capitalized on the opportunity, netting 14 goals in 22 games, securing his position as the team's primary forward under Nuno Espírito Santo.

In search of reinforcements, "Nottingham Forest" has set sights on *Yoane Wissa* from "Brentford". The 28-year-old Congolese forward is showcasing impressive form this season, hitting the back of the net 11 times in 19 matches. He has become "Brentford's" all-time top scorer in the Premier League, surpassing Ivan Toney.

The question remains whether "Brentford" can retain one of their top assets mid-season. Meanwhile, *Awoniyi* is being considered for departure if a suitable replacement can be secured. His fitness struggles and reduced role at the club make an exit a realistic scenario.

Despite the challenges, *Awoniyi* still garners interest from several clubs. "West Ham", "Crystal Palace", and "Everton" have all shown interest in the striker, and a return to the Bundesliga remains a viable option. Known for his hardworking nature and goal-scoring prowess, he is a valuable asset for teams in need of offensive strength. A fresh start elsewhere might be the perfect catalyst for the former "Liverpool" forward to reignite his career. Although under contract with "Forest" until 2027, with Wood firmly entrenched as the first-choice forward and Wissa possibly arriving, opportunities will be scarce.
