Ademola Lookman, playing for "Atalanta" and the "Super Eagles", talks about his switch to Nigerian football allegiance as a life-altering decision.

"Atalanta" and "Super Eagles" forward Ademola Lookman credits his switch to Nigerian football allegiance as a pivotal moment in his sports career. The 27-year-old, born in London to Nigerian parents, represented England's youth teams, including the U-20 World Cup-winning team in 2017.

After being overlooked for England's senior squad, Lookman made the decision to represent the "Super Eagles" in 2022, describing it as life-altering. "It was massive for me because it was truly a big turning point in my career," Lookman admitted in an interview. "Ever since I donned the "Super Eagles" jersey, it's been upward. We've achieved so much as a team and continue to progress, with a very special team spirit."

Since his debut in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against "Ghana", Lookman has become a key player for Nigeria. At the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, he scored three goals and provided an assist, leading his team to the final and earning a spot in the tournament's Team of the Tournament.

Lookman had challenging spells at "Everton", "Leicester City", and "Fulham", including a failed Panenka penalty contributing to "Fulham's" relegation in 2020. Yet, upon joining "Atalanta" in 2022, his career took an impressive turn. Twice named "Atalanta's" Player of the Season, he played a crucial role in their UEFA Europa League success, capped by a hat-trick in the final.

The timing of Lookman's club resurgence coincided with his international switch to "Super Eagles". "Ever since I joined the "Super Eagles", everything has improved," he emphasized, proud to wear Nigeria's iconic green and white jersey. His excellent form also earned him a place among the final five for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award.
