Ruben Amorim: Coaching and Player Readiness Challenges at "Manchester United". Limited adaptation time within MLS season.
"Manchester United" declined the opportunity to hire Ruben Amorim this summer, which is now causing them losses in the Premier League. Amorim has already lost more matches than he has won as "Manchester United" manager, with unforeseen setbacks aggravating an already challenging task at "Old Trafford".
The main hurdle for the Portuguese coach is the limited training time with players mid-season, which makes changing formation and style particularly challenging. But it's this shift in style that led Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS to pass up the opportunity to hire him in the summer, according to commentator Alex Crook. Addressing the issue of how players are adapting to Amorim's plans, Crook remarked: “That's on INEOS then, isn't it? They did pre-season with one manager playing one style – though we never really knew what it was – then they invested heavily in players suited to that manager before they let him go.”
Troy Deeney replied: “And now they've gone in a completely different direction.” Crook continued: “Also, and I know this for sure, the ownership offered Ruben Amorim in the summer when they were staging a manager selection process. They talked to Roberto De Zerbi, Kieran McKenna, Thomas Tuchel and turned down Amorim because his style didn't fit this "Manchester United" squad. Yet they hired him several weeks later. It doesn’t inspire confidence, does it?”
Sam Matterface took a different view, stating that it clearly demonstrates long-term planning rather than short-term. "That should probably give you more confidence!" But Crook countered: “Nothing they've done so far instills me with confidence.”
Meanwhile, in a surprising turn of events, Marcus Rashford is back in the "United" squad to face "Newcastle" on Monday. The England international hasn't been included in the lineup since announcing he is seeking a "new challenge". Rashford's reintegration might be beneficial as it doesn’t seem like he will have a wide range of transfer options in January.
